Preview Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots

Posted by Anirudh Subramanian on January 19, 2012

This were the two best teams in the AFC and it will come down to can the Ravens stop the Patriots offense and can the Ravens offense get into a rhythm against a very improving Patriots defense. The Ravens and Patriots are meeting in the AFC Championship game with both teams having aspirations of winning a Super Bowl.

The Patriots really looked in sync on both sides the ball last week against the Denver Broncos. Their offense did not miss a beat Brady threw for 6tds and looked sharp. They must bring the same game plan this week. The offensive line must protect Brady the way they did against the Broncos pass rushers. This will give Brady to make throws down the field. I also think they need to keep the tight ends involved as much as possible . Last week they got Hernandez touches in the running game and Gronkowski had three touchdowns catches. This two guys are the key for this offense they can exploit the middle of this defense. On the defensive side of the ball they need to watch last week's game and see what Houston Texans did. The Texans stopped the run completely and brought the pressure on Joe Flacco. They really made Flacco uneasy in the pocket and he was not able to get their offense going. The Patriots need to contain Ray Rice and make Flacco beat them. The Patriots pass rushers are very underrated and must get pressure to Joe Flacco. This will rattle him and get him to make errand throws.

The Ravens have always had a great defense, it usually comes down to can their offense score enough point for them to win. Last week they just had enough plays to win. This week the offense has to be a lot better. Ray Rice had a bad game the Texans really made it a point to contain him and you saw the results. The Ravens offense was totally out of rhythm when Rice was not playing well. The Raven must run and keeping running the ball to keep Tom Brady off of the field . On defense they need to get pressure on Tom Brady last week they had zero sacks on TJ Yates they cannot let that happen this week because Brady will just pick them apart.

This game will be battle of a top defense against an elite QB. These two teams will be fighting for a berth in the Super Bowl. This game will come down to can the Raven's Defense stop that explosive offense of the Patriots . The matchup to watch is Ed Reed the safety of Ravens against Tom Brady. Which one will e able to fool the other may decide the final score.

My Pick: Patriots 28 Ravens 13
